Ragi—a super cereal but not super popular: the once indispensable millet is now offbeat. The poor man’s hand-shaped millet has a hand-ful of benefits (got
the pun?). But like many other things, the 60-second reels and the word of nutritionists are popularising it for a reason.
What’s the ‘reason’?
The gluten-free ragi has all the mumbo-jumbo compounds causing a high protein content. It is laden with minerals: it may sound like a marketing scheme, but it is true. It has milligrams of calcium than the white liquid(milk). And more iron content than spinach.

Yes, we agree that we are new ‘kids’ on the block, but that shouldn’t hold you back! Like any other witty teenager trying to prove a point, we want to back our packet on the shelf. Our ‘cling film’ is our test report: out of 100 grams, there are 279 mg of potassium, 241 mg of calcium, and 105 mg of magnesium, and yes, gluten is below the limit of quantification, meaning it truly is gluten-free!
What does ‘cold ground’ mean?
We don’t want to give away the nutrients to the heat of the roller mill (used for grinding), so we grind our ragi using the Emery stone mill. It’s kinda like the good old stone chakki.
